Growth Accelerates for MC Construction

17 May, 2017 by Roy Stewart

Turnover at Manchester & Cheshire Construction is on track to grow more than 20 per cent this financial year to a record £15m.

The Salford-based firm has completed projects worth £8m and currently has an order book of £6m.

Revenues in the 12 months to September 30 rose 17 per cent from £10.4m to £12.2m, and the family-owned business is now on course to register its eighth consecutive year of growth.

Managing director David Lowe said MC Construction remains on course to achieve its £20m turnover goal by 2018.

Highlights of the 2015/16 financial year included an alliance with Chinese developer Chongqing Jinstar Real Estate Development Company to buy sites in Greater Manchester for residential schemes.

The company was also reappointed to Royal Mail and University of Manchester frameworks.

This year, MC Construction has been boosted by bigger projects and strong repeat business.

It is due to complete the largest single contract in its history, an £8m project to refurbish the Samuel Alexander Building at the University of Manchester, and a £2.3m overhaul of the Houldsworth student accommodation block at the Hulme Hall complex in Rusholme.

The firm was the main contractor for a £4m revamp of Chancellors Hotel at the university and a £1.3m scheme to double the size of a doctors’ surgery in Blackley, north Manchester.

It has also been re-appointed to Cheshire East Council’s construction services framework.

Mr Lowe said: “After a strong performance in 2015/16 we have further accelerated our growth during this financial year by competing successfully for larger projects.

“We have strengthened our company structure with the appointment of Michelle Richardson to the new role of operations director, and we’ve invested a significant sum to improve efficiency by migrating our IT systems to the cloud.

“With a healthy order book, we are well-placed to achieve our target for this financial year and look forward to the future with confidence.”
